WINTER-WARMING MULLED WINE

Posted on

mulled wineIs there anything better on a chilly night that a glass of mulled wine? Mulled wine is a spiced hot wine cocktail with many variations but this one is our favourite. It is deliciously warming, but best of all only takes about 10 minutes to make.

INGREDIENTS

  • 750ml red wine (We used the 2019 'The Wild One')
  • 150g castor sugar
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • peel of one lemon
  • peel of one orange
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 5 cloves
  • orange slices, to serve

    METHOD
    1. Place all ingredients (except for the wine) into a large saucepan and place on medium heat. Add a splash of red wine to the pan to ensure the sugar is covered and let it cook for 4-5 minutes until the mixture thickens.

    2. Add the remaining wine and turn down the heat ensuring the wine doesn’t boil. Let cook for 5 minutes and then strain through a sieve.

    3. Serve piping hot with slices of fresh orange. Enjoy!
